Travellers using the Gorakhpur Link Expressway are in for a world-class ride, thanks to cutting-edge Swiss technology.
Having said that, the Uttar Pradesh government has partnered with ETH Zurich, a top Swiss institute, to enhance the ride quality and overall driving experience on the 91.3-km stretch.
What Makes This Expressway Special?
As per TOI, the 91.3-kilometre, four-lane expressway, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tomorrow, has been tested and refined using highly advanced tools:
- Vibration and motion sensors
- Accelerometer-based systems
- AI-based analysis
Experts from Switzerland used these tools inside a specially fitted Innova vehicle, which made several test runs to identify rough patches, noise levels, and any bumps. Based on the findings, targeted improvements were made to offer a premium driving experience.
The same Swiss technology has also been used to evaluate and maintain the Ganga Expressway and other major highways across the state, making Uttar Pradesh’s expressways among the best in the country.
Swiss Precision at Work
The testing and evaluation were conducted in partnership with ETH Zurich and its spin-off company RTDT Laboratory AG. The project was closely monitored by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), ensuring high standards were maintained throughout.
According to TOI, a senior UPEIDA official shared, “The CM’s office was continuously tracking the project’s progress to ensure timely and quality completion.”
While construction began in February 2020, the project faced some delays. One of the biggest hurdles was a change in the course of the Ghaghra River, which damaged an embankment supporting a key bridge between Ambedkar Nagar and Gorakhpur during last year’s monsoon. The repair took time, pushing back the expressway’s completion.
Setting New Standards for Indian Roads
With Swiss engineering and Indian ambition coming together, the Gorakhpur Link Expressway sets a new benchmark for road infrastructure in the country. Soon, commuters will enjoy bump-free, noise-free rides, making travel faster, smoother, and more comfortable than ever before.
