House Of The Dragon Seasons 3-4 Already Being Planned, George R.R. Martin Says

George R.R. Martin has provided an update on the Game of Thrones prequel TV series House of the Dragon, saying he expects the show to run for at least two additional seasons, bringing it up to Season 4.

Posting on his blog, Martin said he recently visited the House of the Dragon set and met with showrunner Ryan Condal and the writing team to discuss the fantasy show’s future. He said he had “lively, fun discussions” about the third and fourth seasons of House of the Dragon, which have yet to be announced or confirmed by HBO.

Martin said he and the team “got some good work done,” but he admitted that the two days he spent on-site was “not nearly enough.” He said, “There is so much ground to cover that I am not sure twenty days would have been enough.”

In the same blog post, Martin teased the first two episodes of House of the Dragon Season 2, saying they might make viewers cry. The first trailer for Season 2 recently landed, showing off more of the conflicts and drama to come–you can watch that trailer above.

Season 2 will premiere in “early summer” 2024, so fans still have a little while to wait before they can tune in to see how the Targaryen conflict continues to unfold.

Beyond House of the Dragon, HBO has other Game of Thrones spin-offs in the works. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will begin filming in Spring 2024. HBO has also talked about a Jon Snow Game of Thrones spin-off, but it remains to be seen if that show is moving ahead or not.

Another HBO TV series set to return is The Last of Us, but it won’t arrive until sometime in 2025.
