Ather Energy To Set Up Third Manufacturing Plant In Maharashtra, Aims To Produce 10 Lakh EVs

Currently, Ather’s two Tamil Nadu plants have annual capacities of 4.3 lakh battery packs and 4.2 lakh scooters.

Ather Energy, the electric two-wheeler maker company has announced that they will be opening their third manufacturing plant in Bidkin, Aurangabad Industrial City, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra.

This is going to be the company’s first plant outside Tamil Nadu, where Ather currently operates two units.

With the new plant in Maharashtra, Ather Energy aims to produce of 10 lakh scooters/ electric batteries every year.

The new manufacturing plant will be made in an investment of Rs 2,000 crore, generating employment for around 4,000 employees.

Talking about the new production unit, Swapnil Jain, Co-founder and CTO at Ather Energy, said, “Since 2021, our facilities in Tamil Nadu have been serving as our national manufacturing hub, meeting demand across the country. With the help of the Tamil Nadu government and a solid supplier base, the existing facilities remain important for Ather,” quoted Hindustan Times Auto.

The new facility in Maharashtra allows Ather to move closer to more markets in the country by lowering logistical costs and speeding up delivery of completed products to clients, the Co-founder said.

“We are grateful to the Maharashtra government and its policies that promote EV manufacturing and growth,” he added.

At present, the existing two plants of Ather Energy have annual capacities of 4.3 lakh battery packs and 4.2 lakh scooters, respectively. With the addition of the new plant, the company aims to take the production to nearly 15 lakh units per year.

The electric two-wheeler maker currently offers four models i.e. Ather 450S, Ather 450X, Ather 450 Apex and the newly launched Ather’s first family scooter Ritza.

The price range for Ather E-scooters begins from Rs 1.10 lakhs for the Ritza. The most expensive Ather scooter is 450 Apex which is priced at Rs 1.95 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The 450S and 450X cost around Rs 1.15 lakhs and 1.40 lakhs (ex-showroom),  respectively.
